Prepare early for better proposal!

Above is what I really want to express exactly. Today we are in late January. Usually Google Summer of Code starts in the beginning of March. There are a valuable month left for all of us, mentors and students, to prepare themselves for this impressive event. Do you really want to be a part of this program? If your answer is "yes", why not start early? Not tomorrow, I mean today! Right here, right now!

In case you have no cool idea to make amazing project, I recommend you to spend a month in open source community to involve something, e.g.,

  1. Install the open source product
  2. Learn what it can and it can't
  3. Ask if need
  4. Learn coding style
  5. Find weak point

If you don't know which project should be the first one to try, I have a project in my mind, Drupal. Why? Drupal is very flexible and powerful CMS. You will learn how to code PHP in such a good way, not the best but good enough for starters. There is a comprehensive community in Thailand at http://drupal.in.th/.

Are you a student? Do you want to participate? If you need some helps, please don't hesitate to ask me.
