Goodbye Lucid, Welcome Maverick
Yes, it is another 6 months. Maverick is almost ready and I cannot wait any longer. Last night I came back home early to download whatever maverick to upgrade my lucid laptop. Note that I have only one laptop and it must always work fine since I have to do my jobs on this laptop regularly 24/7.
The upgrade went so smooth. After the first attempt to reboot, we stopped at traditional text-mode login prompt. The root cause of this problem was indicated in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
(EE) intel(0): No kernel modesetting driver detected.
I modified /etc/default/grub in karmic for backlight workaround but now UMS has gone #631412.
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset"
Above line must be modified again.
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
Then regenerate grub configurations.
update-grub
After god-damn-fast reboot, Maverick is running rock solid right now. At first glance, I notice the new font and new theme.
