Google Summer of Code 2008: Call for Students
To all students,
Honestly, I would like to convince all of you, especially students in Thailand, to participate in Google Summer of Code 2008 which announced officially yesterday. As of now, there is tentative schedule in [FAQ] and it will be kicked off on March 3, 2008, just 5 days from now. If you have any questions right now, please read FAQ and previous programs in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Don't worry if you have zero knowledge about open source or specific projects. You still have a month to learn which project is the best fit for you. The easiest way to find answers to your questions is to enter yourself into open source communities. In case you don't have any projects in mind, just see the previous mentoring organizations list in 2007.
I, as an ex-mentor in this program, like to help you all. If you have any questions, you may ask me directly. Please let me know if I can help in any aspect (no coding please). My favorite mentoring organization is Drupal (Thailand Community). You should know that there is no limit of participants in this program. If you show that you can finish the proposed project in this summer, you may be selected to join this program.
In this program, you will be a part of open source communities. This is a great chance to contribute your work to the world. It is also a way to live forever.
To contact me, the most preferable approach is Twitter which lets you connect with me in almost real-time whenever, wherever you are or I am. Otherwise, try to see my profile.

Hello P'Sugree,
I'm Mameou from DuocoreTV. Hope you can remember me. :) I asked you a few questions concerning GSoC the last time we met, and I've just got another one. The GSoC coding period runs from June through August, which happens to overlap the first semester of school, which is from June through September. So, a student would have to be coding and going to classes at the same time if he/she got accepted. How do the mentors look at this? Are they going to reject a Thai student because of this?
Thank you in advance, Mameou
Don't worry about it. It depends on project scope and your time. For full-time developer, most of GSoC projects could be finished in just 2-3 weeks so usualy mentors expect to get 3-6 hours per day from student.
In case you know your tentative schedule, e.g., examination, you may put it in development timeline to let mentors know you will be busy during that period.
Ahh.. I see. Thanks ka, P'Sugree.
คือผมสนใจจะทำอ่ะครับ
อยากได้รายละเอียดเป็น ภาษาไทย ได้ป่ะครับ
แต่ต้องเขียนใบสมัครภาษาอังกฤษนะ
