And the time has come again. Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala beta was released yesterday. I cannot download beta in DVD format because its slowness. All I got last night was daily alternate CD. That is enough for me.

The fresh install went so smooth. Everything works fine. Skype rocks. Webcam works. Sound is sweet. After installation, I just rsync home from old laptop and done.

My laptop is ThinkPad R52 running Ubuntu Jaunty. The Skype has been installed from medibuntu repository, 2.0.0.72-0medibuntu4. It was really bad to use Skype. CPU utlization was always 100% during call. The problem should be kernel or alsa driver due to mishandling input/output buffer to sound card. The pain is over today after I found solution.

Yesterday many of you may notice some crashes or slow in Pidgin because of #mbpurple. The real problem is ID overflow :) The data structure is unsigned long long but the function we called was int. I fixed by swap lines as a workaround during @somsak was not there. Anyway, it introduced side-effect so that /replies did not work anymore. Finally, @somsak fixed it by replacing int to ull.

Mitter 0.4.5 has been released for a while but I just have time to make the deb package at PPA. Please follow instruction to install if this is your first time to try.
